Promoting Euro-Atlantic dialogue

A free and independent forum for exchange, AFCEA raises awareness of the work of the Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, highlights France’s role within the Alliance and enriches public debate through its meetings, studies and proposals.

Who we are

The official French branch of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), AFCEA is a forum for international exchange, free and independent of any political or economic constraint. It promotes a better understanding of the work of the Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, and fosters exchanges between the national associations of the ATA network and those recognised by NATO.

  • Meetings and events: conferences, round tables, simulation exercises, exchanges with the ATA and YATA network.
  • Studies and proposals: to inform public decision-makers and spark the widest possible debate.
  • Education and outreach: talks in schools and universities, support for research, educational resources.

Its work brings together representatives of civil society: young talents, intellectuals, academics, experts, business leaders and other qualified figures. Meet our team →

Why our work matters

Given recent developments in the Alliance, some of the people we talk to question the usefulness of our association. Events since 2025 might suggest that it no longer has a purpose. Quite the opposite.

A lasting return of peace in Europe is highly uncertain, and public and private decision-makers, opinion leaders and, more broadly, our fellow citizens need to be made aware of it.

This is also a moment of opportunity for Europeans (in the geographical sense) to keep moving forward together and find ways to show internal solidarity and determination in the face of adversity – towards both our adversaries and our historical allies.

Defending our Euro-Atlantic community remains a necessary project in a world of great powers. We intend to hold high expectations of Europe, which must take charge of its own defence, and of America, which must rediscover a deep understanding of the value of alliances.

That is why our work remains essential.
